Capcom announced the closure of Clover Studio in a press release today. According the document, the reason for the closure stemmed from a desire to "enhance the efficiency of the development power of the entire Capcom group". The closure is set to take effect by the end of March 2007, with a loss of ¥400 million ($3.4 million USD).
Created on July 1, 2004, Clover Studio was initially formed to port the GameCube game Viewtiful Joe to the PS2 (released on August 2004). Later that year, Clover developed the sequel Viewtiful Joe 2 for the Gamecube and PS2. They went on to develop Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble for the GC and PSP, Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble for the DS, the recently released cel-shaded action/adventure game Ōkami and the upcoming western-themed beat 'em up game God Hand.
An entry appeared on the Wired Games blog speculating that Clover desired to leave Capcom to form an independent studio. Those rumors are currently unsubstantiated.

*gasp*
you arent supposed to be in here!
*chases you with taser*
I just hope commenting in here doesnt break the site. Actually, I cant wait to see until the 1579th article is added - what would happen to the site. Would it break and be the end of the Node as we know it? Would it over write these comments like they never existed or will they just be added automagically into the article and everyone presumes we lost our mind?!
Well, I now see! It just automagically adds the comments to the article.
