Courtesy of this press release by Ubisoft, the curtain has been lifted and they have officially announced the Far Cry 2 release date -- expected in Spring 2008 for the PC. Far Cry 2 is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal.
The original Far Cry was developed by Crytek back in 2004; afterwards, Crytek signed a publishing deal with EA for their next game, which (as we all know) is the eagerly anticipated FPS Crysis.
Since then, Ubisoft was left with the Far Cry license and released a few console ports -- Far Cry Instincts, Far Cry Instincts: Predator and Far Cry Instincts: Evolution.
John Parkes, Marketing Director for Ubisoft, said, "Far Cry marked the beginning of a new era for shooters. An era of gorgeous graphics and of advanced artificial intelligence. We are confident that Far Cry 2 will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape."
In the meantime, Ubisoft launched a teaser site for Far Cry 2, which hints at an African landscape. Stay tuned with GamerNode for future news!

Far Cry push the bar on graphics, I hope to see the same thing with the 2nd one.
I hope it doesn't suck, now that Crytek's not involved...
It would be cool if the could release a "total" version of the original Far Cry for all platfoms featuring all the individual features of the different platforms games, and fixing the Wii controls and graphics as well as AI and other things. My brother was unlucky enough to buy Vengeance for me not knowing of its suckyness. We couldn't return it because there was a seal on the game case that he had cracked open to open the case :-/ And the people who want Far Cry for PC shouldn't have the additional feautures from the console versions taken away from them, and vice versa. As well as the new adventure featured in Instincts Evolution/Vengeance.
Anyway, can't say I'm not excited since the original game was very critically and publically acclaimed, but I haven't played any Far Cry except for the pos Vengeance for Wii :-/ I will get the good Far Crys sometime though
