OWR: Oregon Trail

Category: Features, Posted: 07/13/2008 at 05:42PM EDT by OneWordReview, GamerNode Staff

One Word ReviewOregon Trail is a game that will seemingly live on forever, at least in the hearts and minds of those who played it. It was a common sight in many-an-elementary school computer class, and fording the river, buying oxen, and catching deadly cases of malaria somehow manage to stick with you. This surprisingly fun game was considered educational more than a decade ago, and I, for one, am grateful for that.

So how do the GN writers and editors sum up Oregon Trail in just one word?

Brendon's OWR: "Dysentary"

Eddie's OWR: "Perilous"

Demetri's OWR: "Survivalism"

Creighton's OWR: "Fifthgradey"

I second that. I hope he gets typhoid fever and dies.

Hey, in 1971 I wasn't even an idea in the brains of my parents!

Oops, it's 1974

Well, it was used for more than a decade and a half after that, and has had sequels. I can't even remember if it was 5th, or 6th grade when our class was made to play it. Whichever it was, that's about 1990, or 91.

I vote we kill imonfire's teachers. What were they, mad not letting you play it? It's the Oregon Trail!:p What better way to teach about settlers in the ol' west? Huh? Huh??

And I third this lynching idea.
