Daily Q: How much do you spend on games?

Category: Features, Posted: 06/24/2008 at 12:06PM EDT by The Q, GamerNode Staff

dailyqSo how much do you spend on games? We're all gamers so one thing we have in common is the immediate compliance of forking cash over for a spiffy new videogame.

GameStrata conducted a survey of North American video gamers and found that on average, the amount spent on games and hardware is $765 a year, which is a total cost of up to more than $30,500 spent from ages 18-48 -- those years being the "peak gaming years."

The results also noted that the Xbox 360 is "the preferred console for the consumption of digital content." 40% of all respondents said they play 6-10 hours online per week.

Barry Dorf, COO of GameStrata, said, "The overwhelming majority of gamers are spending their time online with friends, building their reputation and online personas. Video games are becoming so much more than a momentary diversion; gaming is becoming yet another means of community building."

In addition, microtransactions were met with a warm reception; the results noted that 85% of all respondents said they purchased a virtual item during the last month.

Don't be shy, is it high? Is it low? Have you auctioned off your spouse, kids, or house to buy games?

It's not very high. Pre college (3 years ago) i used to spent 50-100 bucks a month on games. Now I only spend 60 bucks every 2 months.

I guess for me, I've switched over from buying every game out there that I wanted to renting them from gamefly. It saves me untold zillions of dollars. I still buy games, but I reserve those purchases for only the very special ones. Now I'm spending only about $120 per year.

I get a game once every two moths about, so around $60 every two months.

Absolutely free.

Naw, about 50 bucks every 4-5 months. I don't buy that much games.

I get about one new game a month but I buy used or from amazon. I also trade or borrow games with friends so as a group we all get to play but don't all have to buy.

All told about 50-70 a month

Not much. I usually buy a game once a month or every other month. This could mean a $10 used game or a $70 special edition game. It's very variable.

Close to nothing, I either get someone else to buy me games as birthday present, or get cheap ones, like the other month I bought morrow wind, for a fiver. And ocassionally I will get a full priced or near full priced game.

While I had the means, I bought every game I wanted to own, whether it be one a month or five. Now I'll only buy games that I absolutely have to have. There haven't been any since GTA IV.

I've spent about $3000 odd on 360 games in total thus far. MS are definately getting their software allocation out of us 360 users.

No more than $300 a year.

A lot more since I have been promoted. They keep me from the misery of the number crunching and my employees. Why can't I hire robots? :(
