EA tightens the noose around Ubisoft

eaubisoftAccording to a report by Forbes, Electronic Arts increased its voting power in Ubisoft to 25% and owns 15% of its capital. This move marks a 50% increase of voting power in two years; EA Nederland previously held a voting power of 14% in August 2005.

In the rest of the report, EA mentioned that they have the right to continue raising their stake in Ubisoft over the next year. EA can also nominate new members to Ubisoft’s board, but only if there were some major changes within Ubisoft. Is this a hint of things to come?

Back in December 2004, EA bought 20% of Ubisoft, which was considered a heck of a move which even Ubisoft thought was a hostile one, even though they got a cool $96 million. With this continual influence over Ubisoft, who knows what EA has planned.
