Electronic Arts Executive VP David Gardner has made some interesting comments with regard to the future of EA in the handheld market. Gardner openly stated that the current state of the PSP has caused the company to reevaluate its stance regarding the Nintendo DS and its Sony rival; the PSP. MCV reports that in a recent interview, Gardner had some choice words when asked about what he thinks of the PSP's place in the market.
"I don,t think Sony can afford to sit back... I think they still have things they can do with the price and performance of the machine – things that they need to address... There,s no doubt that EA has historically bet more on PSP. I think we were excited by the technology, but the consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun. We must never forget that what we need to focus on is fun and so EA is putting more effort behind DS games – and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware."
These comments indicate what may very well be a drastic shift in EA's priorities and just might spell bad news for PSP owners, but welcome news for DS owners who are fans of EA's software. The momentum of the DS, spurred by the release of the redesigned DS Lite does not seem to be stopping anytime soon. And although the PSP is enjoying a steady increase in hardware sales, one can't help but wonder if EA is simply giving a voice to the quiet concerns shared by developers around the world who are having trouble dealing with Sony's handheld system. Additionally, the report comes at a time when press for Sony in the gaming world is generally less than positive.

If they can knock the price down and up the battery life, the PSP will kick the DS's butt. I have a DS and PSP right now and I generally tend to use the DS over the PSP because of battery life.
The problems with disc based media is that it gets much harder to optimize battery life. But i think youre right in saying they need a PSP Lite ;)
