Usually, the only response to non-gamers about the benefits of playing video game goes something like this, Well, it inproves hand-eye coordination and sharpens your reflexes¦ To which the usual reply goes, So what? Talk about shutting down a discussion in no time flat. But there is a game for the PSP that will change this. A Japanese game developer, Nowproduction, has just released a game for the PSP entitled, PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient. Now before everyone starts to yawn at the blazingly boring title, the game is representative of the many popular intelligence games that have recently swept Japan. PIQ has 100 3D puzzles that measure and quantify a gamer™s intelligence and logic skills through various scenarios related to moving objects, avoiding obstacles, operating devices and such. Scores are based not only on the successful completion of the puzzles, but is tied to the number of moves a user takes and the total time used to solve each problem. The intelligence scoring system for the game was developed with the help of Professor Masuo Koyasu of Kyoto University. Yoji Takenata, executive vice president for the game publisher D3PA said, This is our first title for PSP and we are confident that it is the perfect game for the platform. PQ offers players a meaningful reward for completing the game, an actual intelligence score. It will attract PSP users who are looking for a great game at a great price. After a thorough brain workout, the score of the gamer is tallied and can be compared to worldwide PIQ gamer scores. It is at this point when gamers can either celebrate or hide their faces in shame. But of course, there are probably website cheat codes for individuals who might need some help. Not that I would do such a thing, but I just might check out a couple of these sites for research sake. (GamerNode staff: Yeah right! At last we can answer those who question the value of playing video games with the reply, Because it makes Me smarter than YOU, that™s why! The game is rated E for everyone and will retail for $29.99.
