Capcom Removes Islamic Phrase From Zack & Wiki

Category: Wii, Posted: 08/02/2007 at 12:00AM CDT by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

Look ma, no Islam! In response to the inclusion of an Islamic phrase in Capcom's Zack & Wiki, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) requested that the game be altered, and said phrase be removed. According to a press release that was issued today, it seems Capcom was happy to oblige.

The phrase "Allahu akbar," meaning "god is most great," has already been removed from the Wii game, and CAIR is very happy with the way Capcom handled the situation.

From the press release:

"CAIR contacted Capcom after receiving a complaint about the use of the phrase in Capcom’s “Zack & Wiki” game. The Arabic phrase is one of the most frequently repeated religious statements made by Muslims and is used often in daily Islamic prayers… In an e-mail to CAIR, a Capcom spokesperson wrote: “We have already contacted the team working on the game, and the phrase has been removed from the game and will not be heard in future videos released to the public."

CAIR Communications Coordinator Amina Rubin later expressed the council's satisfaction:, stating, "We appreciated Capcom’s willingness to address Muslim concerns and applaud the company’s swift and appropriate actions."

Good job Capcom. Wooo!

Because people are sensitive little darlings nowadays...

The people who asked it to be removed are racists.

How dare Capcom...commplement their god on his greatness?

Why is it that any organization based on religion is the most easily offended and (consequently) racist? If I were Capcom, I'd back down, too, because who wants to have to deal with that league of ignorance?
