Despite some heavy financial struggles for the past couple of years, Interplay is still keen on getting a Fallout MMOG launched sometime in the future. In their second quarter 2007 financial results, the company had a net income of $5.46 million, which is up 256% from $2.06 million during the same period last year.
Net revenue was up as well, at $5.81 million, which is largely attributed to the sale of the rights to their Fallout franchise to Bethesda Softworks back in April for $5.75 million. Hopefully Interplay can continue increasing their revenue or else they'll be dead in the water.
Herve Caen, CEO and Chairman of Interplay, said, "I am pleased with the progress the company has made, particularly with our debt load, which has improved from $59 million in December 2001 to less than $3 million today. With that difficult period behind us, we are focused on securing funding for development of a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) based on the popular Fallout franchise. Along with our strategy of leveraging our existing portfolio of intellectual gaming properties, Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay."
Lastly, Interplay revealed they need at least $30 million for funding their Fallout MMOG. Do you folks think a Fallout MMOG is wise? With Fallout 3 on the way from Bethesda, I imagine that would spark some new interest into the series, especially since being critically acclaimed back in the late 1990s.

Hmm? This sounds like something that the gaming community could sorely use...
Let's not get carried away here...
Interplay won't get the 30 million in financing before their time is up, in little over a year. It'll then defunct back to ZeniMax, which can produce the FOOL title through its Online division.
Wise? I think Fallout is a bad setting to put an MMO in, it's scarce population and society mechanic just doesn't lend itself well as MMO material. I'd rather someone creative make a new post-apocalyptic setting, especially one with steampunk elements, and uses that for an MMO instead. A Fallout MMO would just be creative bankruptcy
Actually, a Fallout MMO could lead anywhere. I believe that they could put the setting in a more fully developed version of the post-apocalyptic society. Wherein everyone has high tech gadgets and speak 5 different languages. Trust me, its not a bad idea if they pull it off correctly.
