The new DS Lite handheld game console will be released on March 2nd, in Japan. As previously reported here on GamerNode, the DS Lite will come out in three colors; Ice Blue, Enamel Navy Blue, and Crystal White. But according to an official Ninrwnso statement released today and translated by Yamakio, the two blue colored editions will not be available on launch day. Nintendo said, An unexpected obstacle has arisen in the manufacturing process. The Ice Blue and Enamel Navy versions of the DS Lite are of a satisfactory build, but the assurance of a sufficient quantity [of Ice Blue and Enamel Navy DS Lites] has become difficult. We would therefore like to announce that we will be delaying the release date for these 2 DS versions to 3/11. Yamakio speculates that, Š [Nintendo™s] manufacturing problems have lead to a lower yield of acceptable copies of the 2 blue DS Lites, quality-wise. I would assume this to mean that the problem lies only with the outer shell parts, which is the only difference between the blue and white version of the DS Lite. Another probable cause is that most prospective DS Lite customers are shying away from the Crystal White color and placing more orders for the blue ones. No doubt, grubby fingerprints resulting from pizza stained hands, will happily adhere to the white case of the DS Lite. But then again, you never game and eat at the same time, right? The secret is out. Now you girls know why some of us at GamerNode like to wear dark colored clothes. Not a fashion statement as much as one of the practicality in hiding food stains. I™m ordering the Enamel Blue DS LiteŠthe dark blue one.
