PS3 has best version of UT3?

Category: PlayStation 3, Posted: 08/23/2007 at 08:54AM CDT by Andy Groen, Contributor

Unreal Tournament 3I never would have thought it would turn out this way, but it looks like the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 is going to be the definitive version.

CVG is reporting today that Epic is touting some fancy new capabilities for their PS3 version of the game. For one, Sixaxis controls are being implemented for controlling the hoverboards, and for the superweapon The Redeemer.

Also, Epic has stated that UT3 is going to run at a blazing 60 frames per second, and that both versions look identical. Now, take into consideration that the Sixaxis controls are only available on PS3, and also that the only way you can be 100% sure you'll get the full graphical experience is via a unified format (ala a console). Add keyboard and mouse support and it's looking like the PS3 version is the one to get.

I know most PC gamers won't want to hear it, but come release day, the console gamers might have a leg up on them for a change.

Doubtful, Andy. Maybe the casual gamers will be in that situation, but hardcore PC gamers with DX10 cards will be getting the better experience in my opinion.
Does the PS3 even have dx10?

I'd have to agree that it's hard to believe that the PS3 version of any game can outdo the PC version, assuming a high-end system.
What it CAN do, though, is give a hardware-optimized experience to those folks without a good gaming rig.

Scalability will always win for the PC. as for the PS#'s dx10 abilities. I thought it was built off nvidias' 8800 core but with shared memory...I can't recall because I don't pay too much attention to consoles.

Um, yeah. I can... tilt... my hoverboard... and aim the 'Deemer... Totally leg up on the PC, alright.

It may not be better on the best of the best PC but the fact of the matter is, most PC gamers don't have fully upgraded PC's that will look better than the PS3. Do not discount the PS3's graphics rendering capabilities...that thing is a friggin' beast.
And ARCHEM, much of what I was basing my argument off, was the fact that for all intents and purposes they will LOOK identical and since Keyboard and mouse support is included along with MODS...than even the smallest advantage tips the scales.

PS3 is the equivalent of a VERY high end PC, just not THE high end PC. It's just as good if not better than what 90% of PC gamers will be playing UT3 on(Total BS statistic, but that's my estimation.)

Well, I´ll admit I was a tad sceptical about this when it was posted.Looking back, it seems as I was right.1) .missing maps in the PS3 version2).framerate capped at 30 instead of 60 fps (demo for GC Leipzig as 60, final game won´t be)3). cross-platform play between PC and PS3 debunked in Epic´s latest dev chat (not 100% ruled out for eternity though, but unlikely)Doesn´t leave much that would convinve me personally to pick the PS3 version over the PC version, sorry.
