Dave Karraker Leaving Sony

Category: PlayStation 3, Posted: 09/06/2007 at 08:08AM CDT by Eddie Inzauto, Senior Editor

KarrakerEveryone's favorite Sony representative, David Karraker, has announced that he will be leaving the company after less than a year of employment. The senior director of corporate communications for SCEA will work his last day with the company tomorrow, September 7th.

Karraker signed on with Sony just after E3 2006, where his mettle was repeatedly tested as he dealt with an ever-increasing flood of bad press for Sony.

Said Karraker of his departure, "I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the company and its brands are very well positioned to have an exceptional holiday and a very bright future."

Dave will begin his bright (and possibly drunken) future with Skyy Spirits on October 1st, 2007.

History lesson on Sony. Molly Smith was the former PR guru at Sony before she mysteriously quit. She was a big name in the industry and people think she quit because of the PS3 launch debacle. Karraker replaced her to stop the hemorrhaging because all the Sony execs were making asses out of themselves by always saying the wrong things...it was a public relations fiasco with Sony guys saying stuff like, "The PS3 isn't expensive," and "Next gen doesn't start until Sony says so...." Anyway, after a year on the job, it doesn't look like Karraker was successful in upping Sony's image.
He probably saw the writing on the wall and quit before he was fired.
Class dismissed. lol.
