sephiroth flamesLast Friday, a GamerNode article appeared about a sliver of hope that a next-gen Final Fantasy VII would surface. The people have spoken! Over the weekend, more than 20,000 fans signed a petition, letting Square-Enix know "we want some mo'!"

Our friends over at Square-Enix were kind enough to send a personal response to this petition, stating:

"Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support,

We hope this letter answers your questions.

Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.

We hope this information has been of assistance.

Thanks,

Neil- SQUARE ENIX Customer Support"

NO Neil, thank you. Although this letter is pretty much a big fat no, it does leave the door open. Neil cleverly uses clauses like, "no current plans," "This is not to say it will never happen," or "we're replacing Cloud Strife, with Kelly Ng" to keep us guessing. Ok, so I made that last one up, but other than that, it sounds like a lot of doors are being left open.

Now let's start that petition for me as the main character...

Although I wish it would be 200,000 so the petition gains some weight, you made a typo there ;)It´s "more than 20,000" (24,000 at the moment).

Thanks for the catch DX. Turns out that the source of the story had a few too many zeros in it.

"their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects."
Like a game being directed by the guy that designed the craptastic boss fights in KH2! (not all of them were craptastic, but how the hell do I lose a fight when I don't kill notes made of water in less than 10 seconds?)
