Yeah, you heard it right, Ryzom is turning its newest owners bankrupt too. I'm calling it a curse, and encouraging no one to touch this project ever again. Just let it die... or risk death yourself!
Just two weeks ago, the MMO Ryzom, celebrated its third Anniversary with an announcement of bankruptcy by GameForge, the second owners of the game. This happened just 10 months after the last company who bought Ryzom, Nevrax France, declared bankruptcy. Ryzom's just caught up to my friend who wrecked 2 cars in 10 months. What did he do? HE STOPPED DRIVING.
The last time Ryzom was in dire straights, The Free Ryzom Campaign emerged and raised over 200,000 Euroes to help save the game. GameForge picked up the rest of the tab, and TFRC turned into the Virtual Citizenshup Association, which has really done nothing with their extra funds.
Well, The VCA has grown large enough where they can try and buy up the assets before they're liquefied, and are seriously considering it. And if that happens, this will be the second time this MMO has been saved by its own community.
If you're a Ryzom fan, pray to the Ryzom gods and sit tight. You're in for a rough ride. And VCA? Get ready for bankruptcy in 10 months.

It's a shame to see such a scathing, not to mention terribly inaccurate, article about this wonderful game and the efforts to keep it alive.
For starters...
1. Ryzom was fully developed, not "bought," by Nevrax France.2. The Free Ryzom Campaign provided none of the money used to purchase of the game. Instead, GameForge placed a higher bid and payed the "tab" in full.3. The Virtual Citizenship Association has since been focusing on various games in similiar situations (as opposed to "doing nothing"); with this second chance most, if not all, of its attention has been diverted back to Ryzom.4. Ryzom was never "saved by its own community" a first time; instead a browser-game company, GameForge, saw an opportunity to aquire an MMORPG at a bargain. The community was thereafter given no development updates and remained in the dark until the liquidation announcement.5. Its is not GameForge going bankrupt, but rather the ignored extention of the company, GameForge France.
Basically, Nevrax was a small independent company with a vision for a truly great game. Being a small company in a cut-throat gaming market proved too difficult, and thus they could not continue and filed for bankruptcy. GameForge appeared at this time to be a savior, kept the Nevrax team as "GameForge France," and made extensive promises to the game's community. However, GameForge showed little attention to the newly aquired MMORPG and its ex-Nevrax subsidiary again went bankrupt. Complete lack of advertising and no interest in development are largely to blame.
GameForge turned its back on the players. And this article makes GameForge seem like the victims, when really it is quite the opposite.
Kelly, "Better information for gamers to game on", is that not the title of your site?
With such a motto, it would be worthwhile to have at least some true information in your articles. The only genuine fact in above article is that Ryzom is bankrupt.
The game was bought by a locuste company that drove it against the wall deliberately. Gameforge has been doing nothing to sustain Ryzom, short of letting the running servers plugged in.
What they wanted were the millions invested by Accel, they have them. What they wanted too was the Game's IP, they have it.Everything else, they put into a subsidiary with no financial funds and let it die. It's a miracle the game survived 10 months under these conditions.
Kelly NG, why do you throw all that crap to a wonderful game? If you were a truly journalist, you would checked the ryzom forums and maybe contacted with more reliable sources than "sor.warcry.com". As other comments the truth is here, in the comments, no in your article. It's very sad to all of Ryzom's players to see that a "journalist" or whatever you are really (i don't care) is saying very bad things about the game without informing before. Trust me, Kelly NG, you don't have any f*cking idea of all this mess, so shut up and read the truth.
Netsultan
Truely a village somewhere is missing its idiot, for their sake Kelly Ng, please return to them, they are distraught at your absence and while you relax in their embrace, please ponder a couple of things.
1. Journalists should verify their story BEFORE publishing it.2. Let people THINK you are stupid, rather than write untrue drivel like this, and CONVINCE people of your stupidity.3. Your friend stopped driving after two accidents, please learn by their mistake, rather than wait for your second screw up, STOP WRITING NOW.
I would have to agree with the posts, Kelly, get you r facts straight. Ryzom is a wonderfully complex and graphically stunning game, with a supportive and active community. If you had read any of the ryzom forums, you would have seen that the community has been begging GF for many months for information and help. They ignored our requests. All GF wanted was the codes and content of the previous developers. I have never seen any advertizing for the game, never heard of any press releases about the game (except for the bankruptcy) telling readers how they were going to make the game better and attract more players. GF has made a sweet deal, acquiring the codes and content for Ryzom at a bargain basement price, while treating the existing community as 4th rate people, not realizing, I assume, that most if not all of the people they just screwed will NEVER touch a GF game again. It could be the best game ever and I would not play it if GF had anything to do with it. In my opinion, they knew when they bought it they were going to let it die. Next time you write a piece like this, do some research and save some respect for yourself as a "journalist".
I subscrive all comments... next time before you said something, read abit first... dont be in ignorance.and yeah GF can spam me with theirs new games... no chance, GameForge just died for me (very very bad fairplay) *better dont say other words*
