Earlier this week FilePlanet begun allowing subscribers to reserve a spot to download the upcoming Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo, and at long last the Beta Demo is now available for pre-loading.
This of course means the predictions of a Friday release were correct and gamers everywhere are mere hours away from getting a taste of the latest iteration of Epic's hugely successful Unreal Tournament series.
While the pre-load is for FilePlanet Subscribers only, Mark Rein has confirmed that it will an open beta, so anyone will be able to hop onto FilePlanet tomorrow and download the UT3 Beta Demo.
Mark Rein also confirmed that the Beta Demo will consist of 4 maps and is around 750MB in size. While it is unknown which maps will be included, it has been stated that there will be no Warfare maps--the reasoning being that one map alone would not give a sufficient representation of the Warfare gametype.
There currently seems to be a trend towards having betas, demos and even full games with pre-purchases, pre-loads and now pre-load reserving! I for one am not too keen on the idea--just release the damn thing I say, get rid of all this pre-this and pre-that bollocks.
Unreal Tournament 3 on PC is still on track for a November 2007 release, with the PS3 version following closely in Late 2007 or early 2008 and the Xbox 360 version coming some time in 2008.
I'm in line right now, and I must say, this is most sexy.
UPDATE: Obviously the demo was released and everyone is now playing it. I too am playing it, and its absolutely amazing, an almost perfect balance between UT99 and UT2k4. Also looks like it wouldn't be that hard for the newbies to get in to so hopefully we'll see a huge jump in size of the community. And then come the mods =D
Oh yes, the mods. I agree with you, demos and pre-loads seem to take away from the true experience of an eagerly awaited release.
