During the Reuters Media Summit, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick made some comments regarding the price for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.
Like others have echoed in the past, Kotick said that the prices must fall to $199 in the next two years or else they'll lose the consumer market.
"In the next 24 months they all will need to be at that $199 price point, and you can imagine Nintendo will be down to the $129 price point over the next few years."
$199 is pretty cheap but I wouldn't expect a price drop like that till for several years, especially now that the consoles have hit their stride lately. Kotick gave praise to the PlayStation 3 but denounced its $400 price tag.
Regarding the Wii, Kotick said, "The Wii at its price point is now setting a standard and an expectation, and people say, well, the Wii is less complex technically. I don't think that really matters as much to the consumer."
Activision has had quite the success lately, for example being named the #1 game publisher in October.
Hell, I want $199 price tags NOW.
Well Isn't this kinda inevitable?
It's ironic that this guy is asking for $199 consoles when his best seller is $70-90.
bull 53's got it. I have a 360 sitting idle because I can't afford to drop $60 dollars on every new game that comes out. They're $10 cheaper on PC, so that's where my money goes unless I see a console-exclusive title drop to around the $30 price point. The worst part is that you've got to pay a subscription fee for online play that would be considered gimped on PC.
Hell, isn't Sony's ongoing success with PS2 a sign that the whole arbitrary "generation" system is flawed? As long as the developers keep producing fun, innovative games for a console, it lives on, and a sub-$100 point of entry into video gaming has converted a lot of people lately.

That is the truth for sure. I still bust out my ps2 games, and i dropped 70 on 10 ps2 games the other day, because there FUN, and the wii is fun, but i agree, the generation is flawed. And i alse agree that its ironic with the gh prices, and good luck with a 200 ps3, lol.
