Major Nelson is reminding everyone that due to the recent Fall update, Xbox Live Silver members won't get access to free content on the Xbox Live marketplace (like demos) when they are first posted.
All the free content will be available to Gold level members for one week, then Silver members will get the free stuff.
I see both sides. First, Gold members can now breathe in their exclusive membership since they get the free stuff first. But on the otherhand, essentially you have to pay money to get free stuff earlier. But on the other otherhand, an Xbox Live Gold membership is not that expensive.
MajorNelson ends with, "This is not done to annoy our Silver members-limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account."
Do you think this is annoying?
I thought it had been this way before. Maybe he was just pointing it out, trying to get more people to go Gold?
It's exactly the same as FilePlanet exclusive demos and betas and I have no problem with both systems.
I hate you (directed at the people that thought of this idea) up until today i LITERALLY WAS NOT able to stay connected to xbox live, so why would i pay for a god account? In case you're wondering somebody actually helped me today at a forum and FINALLY i think i god xbox live working. If it turns out to work for me he is a god among men IMHO.
It may not be intended to annoy us silvers, but I find it very annoying anyway... I mean, what's the point of it if it's ultimately a free download for everyone? Now if Golds got it for free and silvers had to pay, I can understand that. But the golds get it exclusively for a week and then silvers get it too... Stupid. *huff*
Does silver allow you to play online, or do you need gold? and ps3 is online for free (selling point amirite?)
My Gold membership just slipped to silver about 2 weeks ago. I'm torn, do I want the I Am Legend free theme and backgrounds early, or do I wait a week and laugh about how they have an I Am Legend free theme and backgrounds then?
Luckily, you didn't need the Gold package to get the DiVX/XVid playback update. While it wouldn't be something I would put past Microsoft, they gave it to a poor, pathetic Silver user like myself after all, Merry Christmas Major Nelson!
