As it is with every holiday shopping season, companies try to drum up some extra business by bombarding the public with television ads.
But for Nintendo, this season is going to be different. The company is actually going to pull all of its Wii TV ads in the UK leading up to Christmas, because the demand is just too high and the company thinks it would be irresponsible to continue to advertise the scarce items.
Now that's a problem any business would just love to have.
Nintendo said, "We have been running the campaign all year round, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand."
Mario and Company will replace the Wii ads with DS ads until the demand has died down. According to one industry insider, "You can tell what has been happening. They have a lot of spots on TV, but I am seeing more ads for the DS than I am for the Wii, so you can draw your own conclusions."
If people in the UK do start seeing more Wii ads on TV once again, it can only mean one thing: there are Wiis in stock.

Hehe. Lucky Nintendo!
Wii would like to play :D
I love those commercials
Those commercials do in fact make me giggle, and its funny, my mom was saying that nintendo was teasing the market with these ads, lol. Go nintendo?
Wii's in stock? What is this? Paradox land?
Aww... But I love the Wii commercials! Then again, I never once actually seen a Wii in a store... So, good idea - stop dangling meat in front of the hungry bears.
Haha. "Too many people want our product so we must halt advertising to save people frustration!" is not an argument you see often.
Nintendo just climbed up to a new rung of epic.
Now if only Reggie and other big wigs would just stop making stupid comments...
I suppose it's still "printing money" for Nintendo, the Wii. It's a bit surpringly however that they still have that "new and fresh" momentum come a year after release. PS3 lost it's just after a few months post launch by the game drought (on both PS3 and Wii). I guess the casual market needs no other games than the Bee Game and Mario Party 8 to stay satisfied.
Personally I couldn't have lasted without my X360.
Haha, Wii's are awesome.
(and it's 'its Wii ads', not it's)
If only software publishers had this much success with the Wii, then it'd be awesome.
Well a lot of the third party Wii games have been a bit rushed since most non-nintendo publishers had nothing in the works till they saw the Wii take off. Hopefully, they will start to put a bit more effort into the games and get a handle on just what the Wii audience wants so third party sales can pick up.
Pleanty of Wii ads on telly here in the UK. Watersports...erm I mean Wii for all.
