There was a lot of buzz recently about more new content for the upcoming game, Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar has already announced that there will be two additional episodes--one coming in 2008 and the second one in 2009.
But a fourth quarter business conference call by Take-Two had talking heads speculating that even more content was coming our way.
But it turns out that there won't be. According to a Rockstar rep, the content that was mentioned in the conference call was merely continued talk of the already planned release of the second episode. Some took the "announcement" to mean more new content was going to be released.
GTA IV was originally going to hit store shelves in 2007 but was pushed back to April of 2008. This is a pretty big deal for Microsoft--unconfirmed rumors say that it put up $50 million dollars in advance to make sure that the additional GTA IV content would be exclusive (read: no PS3) for the Xbox 360 alone.
Execs at Take-Two/Rockstar are pinning their hopes on GTA IV to be a blockbuster that will help them out of their financial woes. Ever since the "hot coffee" incident with GTA: San Andreas, they have been struggling to regain their foothold in the game industry.

Still its a little strange to be announcing more content before the game is even out yet. Just my two bits.
I was wondering the same thing. I know it's a long shot, but what happens if GTA IV doesn't turn out to be the big game that everybody expects? That'll mean Microsoft would have spent their $50 million for nothing to make the extra episodes exclusive for the Xbox 360. Wouldn't that be a bummer for them? lol
$50 Million to Microsoft is like spare change =P
50 million is a heck of a bribe. But as noted it's chump change for MS and it's also a pretty safe bet that it'll pay off for them. They really want to push the idea of selling content on Live so this could help serve as a way to get people who otherwise never thought of using their 360s that way into it. On the other hand GTA games usually already have far more content than an average gamer makes it through so there is a question of how much extra content will be desired.
If they short the ending of the game and pull the now-common 'wait for the sequel!' routine, then some additional "episodic mission packs" (or somesuch nonsense) will be an easy sell.
They got rid of content in this one, remember the planes?!?!?
