If there is one thing many N64 owners can remember from their childhood, it's flipping the switch of their black box with Rare's Goldeneye 007 inserted firmly into the cartridge slot and spending a significant period of time taking on their friends in one of the best multiplayer experiences of that generation.
Those who possess an undying adoration for the 64-bit first person shooter have been clamoring for a re-release of the classic through digital distribution (namely through Xbox Live Arcade, considering Rare is under Microsoft’s wing). But so far, they have had no reason to believe that they'd be playing it on an Xbox 360 gamepad anytime soon.
However, Xbox-Evolved is reporting that a graphically updated, Xbox-Live enabled version of the game will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace prior to the release of Activision’s (the current holder of the 007 video game license) next Bond game.
While this may seem like a dream come true to many gamers who love to participate in a nostalgic experience, will the game provide the same level of joy they received from playing it all those years ago?
We'll all have to wait and see.

If this turns out to be true, I hope they also include a co-op mode and some new multiplayer modes. That would be sweet.
I hope it doesn't suck. I was kind of hoping I'd be playing it on my Wii, but it's just as well on 360. At least I'll be playing it again, correct?
I hope they decide to port another Rare classic, Jet Force Gemini, sometime after. I'd buy Goldeneye just so they would be more likely to do that, not counting the enjoyment that'll come out of it.
(unless it's a bad port)
They should port the old Banjo games, too.
*big smile*
Just imagine it without the choppy frame rate...
Oh. My. Gawd.
*faints*
Just imagine it over live!
*drooling*
I was always thinking it would come out for the wii, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. 1 out of about over 100 games they have on the VC has had extra features. And I wasn't too happy about halo just being halo, when the maps from pc could probably be ported either by Gearbox or Bungie or whoever made those maps.
So in theory, to have improvements it must be on another console entirely even though they could just mess with their own set coding without emulating or translating... interesting.
I dunno. Some games are better left to nostalgia.
This'll be an interesting one to watch...
Perfect Dark and Jet Force Gemini please. Or maybe just versions for the Win/Lin/Mac users.
If this comes out on Live, an entire generation of gamers is going to find out it wasn't nearly as good as they remembered it. That's sad.
Oh it is as good as I remember it. Play it often and still love it. I don't think it would be as good with a 360 joypad though.
Yeah, I hear you guys (Corvall, Brendon), but it doesn't so much need to be spectacular, as long as that generation can still enjoy the game with each other.
I would have hoped for a WiiWare version, with Wiimote controls and maybe upgraded graphics... Even if I had a 360, I'd be sad that it's coming to the 360 because it would be better for the Wii. Oh well.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh, and online of course.
Played this game once with my cousin, so it's pretty hard to remember it being that great...
I read closer into the matter, seems like it was just a rumor. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/13/goldeneye-on-xbox-live-arcade-not-likely/
I still play it on my 64 and PC every now and then Brendon and it still rules!
