MYST unveiling on the Nintendo DS

myst smallIf you are a MYST fan you've probably spent many hours in your quest to solve puzzles or unlock mysteries from within the game. The backdrop of the franchise has always been wonderful and the deceptively simple point and click interface was more than adequate to navigate in the MYST universe.

Here's good news for fans and newcomers as Empire Interactive has announced that the classic adventure game will be released in a special edition for the Nintendo DS. There will be an original soundtrack produced especially for the game, remastered video and a new age called the Rime Age-- never before seen in the original release of MYST.

Karim Farghaly, vice president of sales at Empire Interactive said, "As one of the strongest video game franchises in history, with more than 12 million game sold them, we felt it was only natural to partner with Hoplite Research and Cyan Worlds to bring MYST to an innovative system like the DS. The DS addition to the MYST game library allows players to take advantage of the new features created exclusively for the DS, while still maintaining the integrity of this classic game, creating a refreshed, on-the-go adventure experience for players of all ages..."

Things you can expect from the DS version are new mini-tools such as a magnifying glass, camera, notebook, and map. The DS version will also utilize the dual screen setup by allowing you to use the upper screen for information and viewing magnified images while the bottom screen is used to use the many tools and to navigate through the MYST environment.

MYST is published by Empire Interactive and developed by Hoplite Research and will be available in March 2008.

The European version that already came out was TERRIBLE. Controls were fidgety and unintuitive, graphics weren't really changed at all, just ported, and the interface looked like some mid-90's shareware production. I'd love to have old adventure games on my DS, but not if it's torture trying to play them.
