One million PS3 users have folded@home

For all the crap I give Sony about the PlayStation 3, I can't help but applaud their participation in the Folding@home project. In doing so, they have afforded the gaming community a great opportunity to lend a hand in disease research.

Now, Sony has achieved a new milestone of over one million registered Folding@home users. In a press release dated yesterday, Folding@home project lead Vijay Pande had the following to say about the efforts of Sony and their PlayStation 3 userbase:

"Since partnering with SCEI, we have seen our research capabilities increase by leaps and bounds through the continued participation of Folding@home users. Now we have over one million PS3 users registered for Folding@home, allowing us to address questions previously considered impossible to tackle computationally, with the goal of finding cures to some of the world’s most life-threatening diseases. We are grateful for the extraordinary worldwide participation by PS3 and PC users around the globe."

This is exactly what I like to see. The more good the gaming community does, the harder it will be for the conservative mainstream to pigeonhole us as an insignificant and unimportant group of "children." Good show, guys and gals!
