It appears that Apple isn't content with all of their recent successes in the computer, mp3 player, and cell phone departments. A recent trademark application hints that the company may be getting ready to venture into the videogame arena - namely the handheld market.
Trademark-sleuths Trademork have discovered a very interesting snippet in Apple's newest plans for growth. From their report:
On February 5, 2008, Apple Inc. filed to protect their Apple trademark in relation to "hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games".
Veeeerry interesting. Considering the fact that anything Apple touches turns to freakin' PLATINUM nowadays, this filing has the potential to be huge news. Could we be nearing an all-new race in the handheld market, or will Apple's efforts fall victim to the same fate as so many handheld consoles of the past?
Heck, maybe they won't come out with anything at all. Your guess is as good as mine.

proably the ipod game? i dunno what to call it but it would play games and music and movies and go on the internet and cost 300 dollars! :P
It'd better be not as crappy as the iPhone, or iPod, or Mac. Or any of their products.
I'd much rather have Sega take another go at the console market than Apple.
If it's handheld though, Sega should stay far far away. Stupid GameGear...
Wooot, sounds awesome, hope we get more news about this.
what are they gonna call it? the iPlay ? hahaha
anyway, as far as I know apple, they will probably try to target stupid average mp3 users again, and will miserably fail because the games included on the ipod/iphone are good enough for them.
YOu know whats gonna happen bananaman? Its gonna be called the i-play, and then your going to feel bad, its like calling a retard retarded (yes i lifted it from the AVGN, but its oho sooo good)
Let AVGN predict, would be funny if he got it right again by just making fun of something :P
It's not that hard to realize that some companies have better software than others, and nothing is really straightforward. I don't know why apple is a competitor when certainly their jack of all trades (not really), and sure hell is master at none status is not shooing people away.
MacAir, 1000 dollars more to lug about a pound less of a computer that already isn't that great for anything.
I'm just saying that if they go to the gaming market, they won't follow nintendo, they would follow those systems that never come to be (I can't name one cause they suck so bad).
No. They'll fail before they even get started, because this possibility is a failure.
