Lost Odyssey has hit North American store shelves but from the looks of it something has hit the fan as well. First indications from gamers who have purchased the Xbox 360 RPG title say that the four-disc game is horribly packaged. Three of the game discs are stacked together on one hub with the fourth disc placed inside a cheesy paper sleeve.
The way the discs are packed is sure to start another avalanche of returned damaged discs as was recently demonstrated by the Halo 3 Limited Edition which caused numerous scratched game discs due to the faulty packaging of the DVDs.
But gamers are also upset because the Lost Odyssey editions for Japan are far superior to the North American versions not because of different content but because the boxes feature a multiple page DVD holder that keeps all the discs separate and safe.
Forum members over at NeoGaf are blasting Microsoft for their handling of the Lost Odyssey NA edition and are screaming bloody murder at the inferior way the game discs are packaged. So far no word has come from Microsoft regarding this.
But if you are planning on purchasing the game, it will probably be a good idea to shake the game box first to see if you can hear any loose discs rattling around inside. If you do, keep shaking the other boxes until you find one that is relatively silent.

If you are a PAL country, or Japan, then get the Asia-version. It has English Audio/Subtitles as well as Japanese Audio, Korean Subtitles and Chinese Subtitles and it works on PAL and Japan-NTSC Xbox 360s (not NTSC USA Xbox 360s) and has the good packaging.
You can get it from www.play-asia.com
Play-Asia is definitely the way to go for LO. Not only is it cheap, but as KindGalaxy pointed out, it is a superior version of LO.
This game is Microsoft's answer to Final Fantasy....they least they could have done it provide it will proper packages for the stores.
I don't get it either. They have a chance to score with the RPG crowd and they go ahead and cheap out on the packaging of this four disc set. I know RPGs are really big in Japan but Microsoft has done a great injustice to the RPG fans here in North America. If this is the way they are going to package their multi-disc sets, somebody in marketing needs to be fired right away.
I don't give a f*ck about packaging. Everything should be distributed digitally.
Sorry Coyote, but I don't want to be forced to buy the 120 GB HDD for one game, like this one, that is just too big for the 20 GB. I'll get it when I'm good and ready.
My copy had the first disc loose, but it was luckily scratch free.
And the NA release has English text, with English, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, German, and French voices IIRC.
(not looking at the options screen right now)
Good game so far, lame packaging though.
I just bought a PAL release of the game, not the Asian version I already had, and it has the nice packaging, this is the Pacific Packaging done in Singapore that is used for New Zealand and Australia, so the buttom feeders of the West get the awesome package.
This game is going to kill my game storage cast I use... I don't have any multi disc games in there! And the number of the discs won't match up with the slot that the booklet is saved in! Ahh!
What happened to the old days when multi discs would indicate it would be a long and great game. (ff7 and mgs for example)
^They're still here. LO is both long, and great.
Your comment is nonsensical.
