The Witcher sells 600K copies, surprise on Monday

Being a PC gamer allows me to enjoy great titles like The Witcher. Coming totally out of left field (in this case an ocean) during a turbulent time of excellent games usually would of spelt disaster for a seemingly unknown game from a brand-new start-up game developer but The Witcher earned plenty of critical acclaim and praise by critics upon its release.

CD Projekt RED, the game's developer, announced today that The Witcher sold over 600,000 copies worldwide in just three months. You don't have to be a scientist to know that for a debut game by a newly started developer to sell 600K copies is pretty darn good.

Adam Kicinski, joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, was grateful for the game's success and discussed the overwhelming odds held against The Witcher, "It's a great success for us, made all the more impressive by the fact that The Witcher was created by a completely new team and it is our debut both as a game developer and in bringing our products to a global audience. The task was not easy, as The Witcher brand was completely unknown in many markets, and it was released in a busy season alongside franchises that have been on the market for many years."

Kiciński also hinted at some future plans for his company. In addition to continued game updates and patches for The Witcher, the company has a pretty big surprise for gamers, which will be revealed on Monday, February 18th.

"Our plans include continuous game support... and, in late spring, gamers can expect a pretty big surprise, which will be revealed at a press conference really soon - February 18th! We are still working on making the game better and we will actively support our fan community, which is getting bigger and bigger. Unfortunately I can't reveal anything further at this time, but I assure you that we won't rest on our laurels and we have very promising plans for the future."

While the game sold rather well here in the U.S., the game was heavily edited during the English translation. While some dialogue has been changed, that shouldn't stop you from enjoying a fine RPG like The Witcher.
