The Gears of War 2 trailer is out and although the figures and combatants are all shrouded in shadow and silhouette, the very news that another Gears is coming has a lot of gamers having to change their shorts.
But to add to the anticipation is Microsoft claiming that Gears 2 will raise the bar even higher for graphics.
Is Sony listening to this?
According to the Gears of War 2 fact sheet, "Gears of War set the standard for high-definition visuals and became the game to which all others are compared. Gears of War 2 raises the bar even further with the amazing technological advances of Unreal Engine 3."
This will be one heck of a throwdown as Sony's Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 enter the scene and go against Gears 2.
Sony has long proclaimed that the PS3 gaming experience would be superior to all others as far as graphics and the upcoming battle between the Xbox 360 and PS3 will show which machine reigns supreme. (Gee. I always wanted to say that.)

Will it have killer gameplay? Does Microsoft have a clue?
Oui, oui, monsieur eddie...I certainly hope so.
The tech demo of the updated Unreal 3.0 engine looked impressive, that blob that rolled around and showing how Marcus interacted with it was impressive. It will be good to have daylight in Gears of War 2, of course the advancement means we will see improvements in all Unreal 3.0 engine games, not just Gears 2 and not just on Xbox 360, so really this is just Microsoft spin.
I agree with jedi on this. If the gameplay is the same as Gears 1, this one will be easy for me to pass up.
Too bad the 360 can barely run the first one. Hopes and dreams abound. Agreed on the gameplay, it better not suck. It better not.
Sigh.... this graphical war between the consoles is just so stupid, but well its the difference, the PS3 could use the Cryengine2 if wanted to, the xbox360 probably could to but neither would as the unreal engine is just much better.... if you ask me you get the same great if not better visuals loaded in less than half the time taking no computer power in comparison :p
well well, its all up to the gameplay, and it will end up being the controller winning the fight, i say 360... ive always hated those ps controls, sony should have used the new one they planned for ps3
Old school rule of thumb
Great graphics -> Crap Gameplay and vice versa.
I have to say, more often than not, it still holds true.
Gears 1 was pretty amazing graphics-wise at the time, so I was kind of expecting Gears 2 to do that anyway. Not sure why they have to hype this up, shouldn't it be expected?
Anyway, I had a blast with the first game and played through it on all 3 difficulties in like a week, lol. Never did much online, but I'm interested in where the story will go.
The controls took a lot of practice for me, but after a day or so, i got used to them. Epic tweaked the "Roadie Run", which was sometimes annoyingly unresponsive, especially during some of the difficult missions. Also, sometimes trying to use cover and disengaging from it was unresponsive too. I often wonder how the game would be from a first person perspective? If is would be anything like Republic Commando and the squad system that game had, maybe it would appeal to FPS die-hards like myself. To be honest, i actually do not like 3rd person perspective shooters, but i was able to deal with Gears.
I also dislike third-person shooters, but I found Gears' gameplay to be extremely fun and quite well done. Usually, if something didn't work right, it was my fault. Once I stopped making errors, everything worked out great.
I still hate the multiplayer in the game, though. It's just not fun at all.
I had a lot of fun with Gears. I liked that it's gameplay was a change of pace from your Halo/CoD shooters. One of the very few games that I played through more than once, and their coop implementation was great. I'm definitely looking forward to Gears 2.
