In Ukraine gaming magazine Gameplay, Sergei Grigorovich, CEO of GSC Game World, mentioned some sales figure for their FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. garnered quite a lot of controversy for its prolonged development (over six years) but upon its release, the game received a warm reception.
According to a translation, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sold 1.65 million copies worldwide. 950,000 units were sold in CIS while 700,000 units were sold worldwide. To sell over one million copies worldwide for a game that was so long in development is a heck of a feat, especially on just one platform (PC) too.
GSC Game World is working on a prequel to Shadow of Chernobyl called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, which is expected in a few months. In addition to enhanced AI, Clear Sky will feature around 50% new levels, enhanced visuals and DirectX 10 support and repairable weapons and items.

It's wonderful to see a great game that flew so far under the radar in many gaming circles do so well. This should prove that you don't need super-cutting-edge graphics to appeal to gamers.
I have this game played 2 hours of it, never could get into it. Also i HATE how there is no autosave.....
I want this, but I don't believe I can run it. I'll get it when I can run it, though.
There are several shadow patches that make the game run on virtually any machine, a co-worker got it to run on a Radeon 9600.
I just might give this game a try, i never heard of it until now.
jedipoodoo 547: you should try it, its bloody brilliant.
funny, I just bought this game yesterday. I think the story is interesting but the gunplay mechanics are just awful..
"I have this game played 2 hours of it, never could get into it. Also i HATE how there is no autosave....."
Autosave is on level change, means you actually need to get some skill and work on staying alive rather than charging down soldiers with a bottle of vodka and a sawn off shotgun.
Lol at blusey
But yeah, it hink i will pick this up soon, its only 20 bucks, so why not?
Hell yeah! One of the greatest shootan gaems actually gets acknowledged! I dunno how about the rest of you, but I found the game to be absolutely frikkin' brilliant. True, it may be boring in the beginning... Until you reach Laboratory X18. After that, it's FUUUUN! Also, the visit in Pripyat/NPP is worth the rest of the game.
Waiting for "Clear Sky" with great anticipation.
Cool. Nice to see it get some recognition, it really deserved it. Brilliant game. I'm not normally a fan of these RPGish games (i was constantly carrying too much, found myself tired all the time), but it's really a great game when you get into the depths and possibilities.
This put me in the mood to give it some more play time :)
Also, @ Requiem, wtf? There is an autosave, like BlueseyChris said, and there are quicksaves with the standard F5 and F9
