PS3 has a big "secret" game

Category: PlayStation 3, Posted: 02/26/2008 at 11:49AM CST by Demetri Kouvalis, Features Editor

ps3The PS3 has a secret game in development. End of news. Ok, in order to extend this news a little bit longer I'll give you a little tid bit of what Darren Waters from the BBC experienced at the Sony studios in Europe.

"Well, I was shown a trailer for a game not due out till 2009 but was sworn to absolute secrecy. Apparently, Sony just wanted to give a glimpse of what the console will be capable of. In fact, the game is such a secret that when I mentioned the game to Phil Harrison last week he was unsure at first whether even to admit the title existed.

"When I explained I had been shown it under strict Non Disclosure Agreement terms he looked relieved. I don't mean to be a tease - all I can say is that I was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is "in game", as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion."

You know, I don't doubt what Waters said about this secret game. The PS3's power has barely been exposed, and a "total immersive experience" is very believeable. Sony's 10 year plan for the PS3 definetly wasn't just a marketing ploy, but a true remark of its capabilities.

Give Sony another year and you'll start seeing an unbelievable high-definition experience in your living room. Now what Waters saw is still obviously a complete mystery, but does anyone have any ideas? Do you believe it's a new IP or a continuation of a PS1 or PS2 classic?

I remember when that original Killzone 2 trailer was "in game" as well. We all know how that turned out.

I'll believe it when I see-- I mean-- play it.

Hmmm. If what the BBC guy says is true, maybe Sony's promise of a total gaming experience unlike any other will finally come true. But like rtanger said, I'll believe it when I see it too.

I dont doubt the PS3 is an extremely capable machine, but I do doubt Sony PR's honestly. They lie about absolutely everything. It's probably not true.

Also, keep in mind that games that push the envelope graphically are almost without fail either: JRPGs, or lacking in actual fun gameplay. Graphically good games can be fun too, but generally when a games focus is how beautiful it is, the gameplay comes up lacking and derivative (E.G. Crysis, Gears of War, and Doom 3.)

Crysis was fun. Nothing extremely unique or super awesome, but it was fun.

It's still extremely derivative like I said. lol I mean come on, you get a super suit that slowly opens up new super powers to you over the course of the game. Haha i mean regardless of how fun it was, you can't possibly offer less advancements to the videogame world when thats your main gameplay catch.

With Sony's track record of their "in-game" footage shown to hype up a product, I wouldn't be surprised if it was real actors acting a scene out.

you know, I would love to think that this would be the remake of FF7, as much as i know some of you will probably B!tch me out for saying it. For some reason as soon as I read the whole

"Sony just wanted to give a glimpse of what the console will be capable of."

Reminded me of the original tech demo they showed of the aforementioned game. For some reason, it just seems to make sense to me, 2009 release date sounds about right, along with the NDA terms. Idk, just throwing it out there for some people to yell at me for bringing it up....again. :D
