There is a solid release period for the super anticipated experience that is Metal Gear Solid 4--sometime in the second quarter of 2008.
What sort of things can we expect from MGS4? According to Sony:
"Guns of the Patriots will be available in North America in late Q2 2008. A Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack" will also be launched to support online game play. Gamers can select a single player experience or take the action online with up to 16 players and battle it out using the latest weapons and stealth techniques..."
On top of that Sony is releasing a PlayStation 3 MGS4 bundle too. It will include the PS3 80GB system, the game and one Dual Shock 3 controller for $499. We assume that this bundle will hit alongside the Metal Gear Solid 4 release.
Jack Tretton, president of SCEA said of the new bundle, "In response to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers."
Rejoice!

damn, thats soon too.
Well, I was going to get a PS3 for MGS4, and this one (theoretically) has BC, and a Dualshock 3 instead of a Sixaxis, so I think I might just preorder it.
Why is Sony talking about the game and not Konami?
It's the same BC as the MotorStorm bundle, BBB. So not full BC, more li ke 70% or so software BC.
It's still better than nothing.
True. I live in fear of the day my launch PS3 dies and I lose my full hardware BC.
I've had that same fear, Brendon. But now I realize it was just brought on by the multiple deaths of my 360. I now play my ps3 worry free. Where as I still turn my 360 off at 45 minutes to 1 hour of gameplay regardless of weather or not I have finished the level.
Considering the workhorse reliability of the PS2, I think owners of the PS3 won't have anything to worry about for a good long time.
