The folks over at Blizzard are really setting the bar high for themselves when it comes to their work on the hugely anticipated sequel to their beloved new-classic, StarCraft.
In Blizzard's second podcast, Chris Metzen (he's the guy responsible for the WarCraft, StarCraft, and Diablo storylines, by the way) claimed, "we're all doing the best work of our careers." He went on to say:
"It's been very, very rewarding to see this thing take shape. Just getting back to that Blizzard of yesteryear where it's not all about WoW - don't get me wrong, I love WOW! But we're so much more than that."
That's great to hear, because I had almost forgotton that the company ever did anything other than create and operate World of Warcraft...and practice world domination.

That is great to hear, and I hope the game turns out to be really fun. Now lets see them be this successful with a new IP.
I dunno. The video clips I saw (while certainly showing a work in progress) seemed to illustrate basically the same gameplay as StarCraft I. Okay, I get that it's still an RTS, but I'm still waiting to hear how SC II is really going to be a real step forward from SC I. New graphics and units on top of the same gameplay won't cut it.
SC2 will be a great game, Blizz does not release games they don't think are top notch. Look at SC ghost...oh wait you can't because Blizzard keeps canceling it or handing it off to someone else because it is not up to par for the company. Just because the videos look like SC1 does not mean the final game will play like it. I, for one, have never been disappointed in Blizzard game (I even love the Lost Vikings the first Blizzard game I ever played) and I can't wait for SC2, especially if they are saying how proud they are of the work they are doing.
Awesome news. Don't get me wrong, WOW is pretty good, but I would much rather have SC2 come out than a new WOW add-on.
Do I detect fanboy-ism snake0iler?
Guilty as charged, I like to try to remain objective but there a few companies that have earned my loyalty (read Blizzard and Valve) I just love them :)
Hey, I agree that Blizzard doesn't put out bad products. I enjoyed SC and played through it and the expansion. But my concern remains until I see some evidence that SC II is more than a new coat of paint on the same gameplay. SC had great gameplay, and repeating that will still mean it'll probably be a great game. But for my part, I'm not sure that's enough.
