U.S. top 10 best selling PC games in February

Category: PC, Posted: 03/05/2008 at 12:32AM CST by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

sinsofasolarempireThe NPD Group released the top 10 best selling PC games in the U.S. during the month of February today. Despite only making up 5% (as of January 2008) of the reported 7 million copies sold worldwide, Call of Duty 4 emerged as the best selling PC game last month. Combining an awesome single-player campaign with an intense multiplayer landscape will surely make Call of Duty 4 a top player for months to come.

The game that came in second is an excellent example of true and innovative PC gaming. After receiving plenty of critical acclaim upon release, Sins of a Solar Empire snatched the #2 spot on the list. To combat the ongoing 'PC gaming is dying' argument, the game sold over 100,000 copies in just under two weeks, where most were sold through Stardock's online content delivery system.

The rest of the list is pretty standard with plenty of power hitters rounding out the list, including The Sims 2 Deluxe, three spots devoted to World of Warcraft, The Orange Box and Crysis. The list is as followed:

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision
2. Sins of a Solar Empire - Ironclad Games/Stardock
3. The Sims 2 Deluxe - Electronic Arts
4. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade - Blizzard
5. World of Warcraft - Blizzard
6. World of Warcraft: Battle Chest - Blizzard
7. The Sims: Castaway Stories - Electronic Arts
8. The Orange Box - EA/Valve
9. Crysis - EA/Crytek
10. Hoyle Card Games 2008 - Encore

Sins for-the-effin-win. Great game.

Also good to see that piracy wasn't able to drown Crysis out of the top ten.

We all know why Iron Lore has no games on the list.

Because people are stupid and didn't buy their marvelous Diablo 2 clone.

you call it titan quest good? it was ok but not great i could maybe stretch to good whit the expansion

and bad to see crysis isn't out of the list yet, 10/10 graphics 3/10 engine coding.... nice red console filled of error messages also i wonder why i ran the demo perfect on high but can do more than low on the retail one? The Unreal 3 engine gives the same beautiful graphics if not even better whit not system requirements in comparison

oh and have anyone else noticed not even half of the fired bullets in COD4 are actually fired? you can see that in the kill cam when you shot 4 bullets but in killcam you see none, though its still the best multipleyer game out there except for the CS rip off mode i hate it.....

Hey, Crysis is still doing well. Glad to see, it's a great game.

Half of the list is taken over by WoW and The Sims 2

^ those are examples of exclusive PC gaming too, even if we like it or not, hah.

I love Titan Quest. Best Diablo clone out there.

And again, these lists are flawed. I assume this is NPD?

C'mon, when are we going to learn not to take a list that bases its data on a number of stories many of which don't even *carry* PC games in their chain of stores anymore seriously?

It's outdated, NPD is not a relevant information aggregate for PC sales. It misses online sales, it misses the most significant market (Europe). The Witcher sold 600k copies, STALKER sold 1.65 million. How many times has either shown up on an NPD list?

I'll have to get Sins now. I've been hesitant to buy it, but I'm sold now.

How in the heck did Hoyle Card Games 2008 make it to the #10 spot? Uh, oh. Beware the casual gamer...
