New AMD 45nm processor revealed

AMD has finally revealed it's new 45nm processor although it may well be too little too late unless they can get it out at a reasonable date this year.
Too late and they risk being almost a full year behind Intel, adding to their current woes. And if this latest offering is not up to the same standard that people have come to expect from Intel's 45nm processors then AMD could be in a spot of bother. Well... more like a puddle of bother actually. A bothery puddle of botheryness.... sorry about that.
So far they have only showed off one server chip and one desktop chip, but hopefully there are more to come. It'd be nice to see AMD lurch back from the brink and give Intel some good competition once again.

AMD Demos 45nm Native Quad-Core Processors for Server, Desktop

HANNOVER, Germany. -- March 4, 2008 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) demonstrated at the CeBit electronics exhibition its first 45nm quad-core chips running multiple operating systems and a range of processing intensive applications. The processors were produced in Dresden, Germany, in AMD's Fab 36 300mm manufacturing facility, using an advanced 45nm process co-developed with IBM.
AMD 45nm transistors are engineered to enable greater performance-per-watt capabilities in AMD processors and platforms. AMD combines new processes and materials with leading edge technologies, such as immersion lithography and AMD's fourth-generation strained silicon, for a highly-manufacturable, highly-efficient production process.
This important milestone is the first of many as AMD moves toward delivery of 45nm products later this year. The first 45nm chips demonstrated by AMD include the "Shanghai" product for server and "Deneb" for desktop platforms.

My quad core is with intel, amd should try and push for an octo-core or something before intel, that would get them the upper hand maybe.
Unfortunately an octo-core would be foolish. You might as well use a Cell processor (even though it's not x86). AMD needs to really concentrate on catching up in the 45nm department. Small die = more yeild = more volume (as well as power benefits).
If they can strike like they did with the 939 socket performance wise then I'll be stoked. That was a win-win for the consumer. Intel or AMD the prices will be cheaper. However, I'm not holding my breath. AMD has A LOT of ground to cover and it's market share is very low compared to Intel.
