Nintendo of America has just announced the North American release date for their next big title, Mario Kart Wii. The game will ship on April 27th, just about two weeks after the April 11th European release.
As previously reported here at GamerNode, the game will include 16 brand new courses, plus 16 from previous Mario Kart games, and will feature 12-player online competition (without chat functionality). The game will ship with the Wii Wheel shell, but will be playable with the Wii-mote/Nunchuk combo, the Wii Classic controller, or the Gamecube controller, as well.
Said Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing Cammie Dunamay, "Mario Kart Wii transforms one of our most popular franchises into a race that every member of the family can join. Driving with the Wii Wheel could not be more natural, and this is one place where speeding is encouraged."
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! (...six weeks from now)

Glad they took out the dual racing thing. That sucked.
Can't wait to throw banana peels at cars! :P
Yeah, I wasn't much of a Double Dash fan, either, but I thought Mario Kart DS might've been the best in the series thus far. Hopefully MKW will eclipse that effort.
If they nail the controls (they should) this should rock. I wonder how much they will charge for additional wheel shells?
So I should get ready to pick this up sometime in July.
