Street Fighter film cast revealed, 2009 release date

Category: Industry, Posted: 03/20/2008 at 05:28PM CDT by Billy Wang, Previews Editor

streetfighterfilmIt's been a few months since we've had an update about Capcom and 20th Century Fox's upcoming Street Fighter film but more details were revealed today, including a cast list and a tentative release date.

Joining the already confirmed Kristen Kreuk of Smallville fame as Chun-Li are Michael Clark Duncan (The Green Mile, Daredevil) as Balrog, Neal McDonough (Minority Report, Band of Brothers) as M. Bison, Taboo (the Black Eyed Peas) as Vega, Chris Klein (American Pie series) as Charlie Nash and Rick Yune (The Fast and the Furious, Alone in the Dark II) as Gen.

Also Moon Bloodgood, Edmund Chen, Cheng Pei Pei and Josie Ho have been confirmed for the film, but for unspecified roles.

Currently the film has a scheduled 2009 worldwide release date. This summer will feature the release of Street Fighter IV, so Capcom is definitely rolling out the big hits for the upcoming 20th anniversary of Street Fighter.

In minor related news, Jean-Claude Van Damme, who played Guile in the original 1994 Street Fighter film, turned down a role in the new Street Fighter film; what a shame.

Why would Van Damme turn down a role? It's not like he's doing anything right now.

he's making World of WarCraft ads for the French.

Man, I love street fighter 2. It was a rock solid 2d fighting game back in the day. Great controls, good balance, and a good mix of martial artists. You know what it lacked completely? Any semblance of a story. I mean, if in over the years capcom could not even come up with a good reason why a Russian would fight a Japanese martial artist, then punch out a Chinese lady before going after a half man half beast raised in the wilds of Brazil, I don't think 20th century fox has a chance.
