You probably thought exactly what I did upon hearing the announcement of Guitar Hero On Tour for the Nintendo DS, "That'll probably suck," or perhaps, "how the hell are they going to pull that off?"
Well if your thought processes are indeed likened to my own, then you're going to like this news bit. Activision has announced the means by which players will control the first handheld installment in the series. The game will ship with an exclusive peripheral that plugs into the GBA port.
Players will hold their DS Brain Age style and position their fingers along the four keys while strumming to the rhythm using the touch screen and a special On Tour pick stylus. I'm also told that there is a strap on the back that will aid the player's grip.
I don't know about anybody else, but this comes as a complete surprise to me, as it wouldn't have been at all uncharacteristic of Activision to simply throw together a slap dash reimagining that took them 3 months to make. This really looks though like they are trying to keep the series integrity intact. I'm impressed considering this is the company that built their entire video game empire on movie-game licenses.

That does look kinda cool. But for me, guitar hero or rock band (would love to try that one) has been a with friends only deal. Usually only play it at parties I throw. It also helps with fun to turn your stereo to "break your neighbors windows"
As a side note, if you plan to turn your stereo up that loud, invite said neighbor. It helps mitigate the chance of police at your front door.

and wait, activision built there empire on movie licenses? Andy, wherever you got that, your a bit wrong, actually, your VERY wrong. Activision was the first 3rd part game developer in the market, comprised of four atari ex-workers, who decided to leave when warner bought atari. they left beacuse warner made making games suit and tie, and complete and total lack of creativity. They left, and made activision with a former music producer (?) and then went to make games. This was 1979, they got into a whole legal battle with atari, and won, thus releasing there 1st game in 1982, Pitfall!, which then began the companies succes. the company even went as far as to make 12 record consecutive earning years up to 2004. Thats not a company who got big off of movie titles. there were slight problems in 1988-1991, such as bankruptcy, but that was megadianec, so yeah. Recently, sure they do movies, but they are as off 2008 the #1 dev/pub in the gaming market.

They didn't build their library on movie licenses, but with how they've been running I wouldn't be surprised if they did that in the near future.
In 2006, Activision did heavily depend on tie-in games from movies and as a result, it's business fell 30% from the previous year, 2005. They were trying to make a successful game business by doing this but failed. In fact, GamerNode pointed out that unless Activision moved away from their tie-in strategy, that they'd be doomed. They changed course and voila, now they're #1.

i'm just saying, they didnt BUILD THERE EMPIRE on movie tie ins. they were and still are a damn good pub/dev.
