According to the latest Official Xbox Magazine podcast, Bethesda Softworks executive producer Todd Howard dropped some more details regarding Fallout 3. First and foremost, the game will feature over 200 endings, that's right folks, 200 endings.
Remember when we reported that Fallout 3 would have 12 endings? Looks like the Bethesda crew got plenty of ideas over the past few months.
Last month, we mentioned that Fallout 3's world would roughly be about 50 to 80% the size of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion but Howard mentioned that the game is now twice as big as they originally planned. What does that mean in comparison to Oblivion, we'll have to wait and see.
Other lingering details are in regards to NPCs; at all times, you will have at least one "humanoid-type companion" along with another NPC, like the lovable scrap Dogmeat. Speaking about Dogmeat, Bethesda is paying extra attention to Dogmeat's Radiant AI and his health system because, you know, he's a dog after all.
Lastly, Howard mentioned that development on Fallout 3 is essentially finished, so they're currently in full bug-squashing and polishing mode. Fans can expect a playing time of over 100 hours depending on how they play; the main quest will take around 20 hours.
Fallout 3 will head to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this fall.

What will the quality of the endings be though. They could just be a text-piece on the screen, if you kill the end bad guy using a hammer...
"IPWNZORTEHN00BZ went on in his life, resettled with his love from the Vault and had 5 kids. THE END."
And if he killed the bad guy at the end with a Portable Nuclear Launcher...
"IPWNZORTEHN00BZ went on in his life, resettled with that hooker he screwed in the first town he visited since leaving the vault and had 5 kids. THE END."
Rather have quality endings than quantity endings.
i agree, but until we can view these endings or read some factual information on them i'm still going to keep my hopes up...
and 100 hours is a lot of time (also assuming its enjoyable...)
Bigger than Oblivion? Oy... I really hope that doesn't mean we'll be seeing "Loading..." pop up every five minutes... It was bad enough then. Please not again...
Is big truly better? I mean, if Fallout 3 doesn't have the fast-travel like Oblivion, well, forget that.
It better not have the stupid level-scaling of Oblivion.
Worst. Idea. Ever.
If I want to walk to the edge of the map, go 5 levels deep in a cave, and get owned by a creature 25 levels higher than me to punish me for going in over my head, then damn it I should be able to...and then, if I should manage to succeed or escape, then damn it reward me with an uber item. Not a silver bowl because I'm not a high enough level to spawn something decent.
There's this thing called "challenge." It pairs well with open-ended RPGs...
