And now for the bad news...the screenplay has been written on "spec." Stuart Beattie, the writer that has been commissioned to produce the movie scripts for Spy Hunter, Gears of War, Splinter Cell, and the upcoming $170 million movie, G.I. Joe, has completed the screenplay for the Halo movie.
But since he's doing it on "spec," that means that he did it of his own accord without being paid and is hoping that someone will buy it.
According to an inside source, the script for the Halo movie (spoiler warning) will involve:
"...a character-driven story about a soldier named John who was kidnapped or "conscripted" by the UNSC when he was just six years old, and then brutally trained to become an elite Spartan warrior known as Master Chief 117.
"The script then takes us through the horrific first contact with the Covenant hordes on the doomed colony world of Harvest, and then climaxes with the spectacular fall of the UNSC forward base on Reach, during which every other Spartan is slaughtered.
"The script also gives detailed outlines for the second movie, HALO: RISE OF THE FLOOD, which takes place entirely on the Halo ringworld, and the third and final movie, HALO: BATTLE FOR EARTH, which roughly follows the events of Halo 3, the game."
With the repeated false starts associated with the production of the Halo movie, we'll all just have to wait and see if this really pans out or not. But the script details look very good and hopefully, this will be the push that will get Halo the Movie off and running.

Sounds alright.
Sounds like: Halo Books ---> Screenplay ---> Movie (which wouldn't suck by any standards, except for the flood)
Dare I say it sounds...half decent?
As long as they don't butcher it like they're gonna butcher the Condemned movie, then it'll be aiight.
As long as they don't have those gay subtitles in the movie names it should be good.
It's going to be bigger than Star Wars!!
"during which every other spartan is slaughtered..." ?...
just thought that needed a little bit of a closer examination (considering the books (which beattie admits he bases the script on in other reports around the internet)...)
To his knowledge at the moment, and the thus the viewer, this is exactly what happened.
