The Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comics has confirmed that a Paper Mario title for the DS will hit Japanese retailers this July. A US release will likely happen soon afterwards followed by a UK release. CoroCoro reports that this game will be a port of the original Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64, which was first released in 2001. While the game will be a port, it is very possible (and more than likely) that the game will be updated to take advantage of the DS' touch capabitilities.
I was ecstatic when I heard this news. Paper Mario is quite possibly my most favorite game of all time. To bring it with me wherever I go on my trusty DS would be heaven on earth, and if it has new extras that weren't in the original, then that's even better. I can't wait to hear more information on this title.
I'm sure Nintendo is hoping that the large install base of the DS will help drive sales of the game, as the original Paper Mario failed to meet sales expectations due to it being released just as the N64 died. The Virtual Console version has done much better, but it's not very likely that people who recently bought it on the VC will buy it again just to play it on the go.

Cool. Thats gonna be wicked, just bought the original on virtual console.
yeah i bought the orig on the vc, so why should i buy it again?
Awesome. I loved that game. But never got to finish it as I rented it. Now if only they'd port that Mario RPG from the SNES.
Alec, I'd get it becasue that the kind of game that i think is really good for bursts of play. I'm not that big on RPG's, whatever they are, but this i find great, and the spiritual original, Super Mario RPG. I play it in about 20 minute bursts, it's incredible fun. And sooooo cute!
Its weird when people call me by my name on the nets lol
I guess so, but it better come out for like 20 bucks then, i aint paying 40.
