A Microsoft press release circulating around the tubes is making fun of the installation procedure that the PS3 version of GTA IV requires.
Specifically, they're mocking the time the installation takes. Here is the full press release. Keep in mind while reading this that GTA IV's PS3 install takes a whole five minutes.
"With the OXM review hitting streets today, and your own preview impressions which are looking great, hopefully you'll all be a bit wiser as to the ins and outs of GTA IV now.
I'm sure you've all seen the chatter from the 1up GTA IV Preview on the PS3 install time....just a few thoughts on what you could do in this time if you were actually playing the 360 version from the moment you insert the disc....
· Steal your first dozen or so cars and test out the improved vehicle handling?
· Check out the cool features on your mobile phone?
· Rack up a 5 Star Wanted Rating?
· Have a blast of your first MP game on Xbox LIVE?
· Ditch the tracksuit chic and buy some new clothes?
· Unlock your first GTA IV Achievement and boost your Gamerscore?
....Or just start downloading a film from Xbox LIVE Video Store to watch later - check out the latest batch of arrivals this weekend!"
Hey Microsoft, here's one more to add to your list: make a sandwich. I mean, as if a whole five minutes is enough time to do ANY of the above activities. Man, Microsoft is really grasping for straws here.

"Unlock your first GTA IV Achievement and boost your Gamerscore?"
I wonder what sort of achievement could be unlocked in under five minutes. Stealing your first car? Inputting your first cheat code, if they still have those?
Masturbait.
The aim of the game is to finish unloading before the PS3 does.
I will totally kill myself if it takes more than 5 minutes to install. Seriously, I will be writhing on the ground knowing that some xbox owners may be playing it five minutes before me.
well, if installing to the hard drive speeds up loading times, then i would be more than happy to do it, as the load times in previous gta games (on startup) were horrendous.
I think the PS3's install time is slightly shorter than the time it takes for Microsoft to repair their problematic system.
PS3 takes long to install GTAIV.
Xbox 360 got the ring of doom, is noisy, got a pay-play multilayer and overheat. Am I forgetting something?
Does it REALLY matter? really?
In the Console War? It does matter. It Really Does.
To the consumer, whatever, both consoles are going to be great for this game.
It's funny when console makers rib each other occasionally, but this is just silly. It reminds me all too much of Sega's old tactics.
I bet they can't even control Niko within the first 5 minutes, let alone get an acheivement or buy new clothes. Microsoft are idiots.
Frankly the fact that XBox 360 is ever comparing itself to PS3 shows how misinformed they wish gamers to be. The PS3 is NOT made to be the 'uberfast ultimate perfection' that Microsoft always looks for. Instead it's improving upon the Sony use of technology and using thier own ideas. UNLIKE Microsoft, the PS3 users are allowed to chose exactly what's going on, not being informed if anything is being installed. So compared to Microsquish, Sony actually gives a crap about it's users choices and privacy. And doesn't require 'achievements' that end up meaning nothing if you really just want to play games.
Big whoop. The only reason I have the 360 version is that it has exclusive content and because I lack a PS3.
Also add: Waste time reading this stupid post...
But the amount you save on loading times will be greater than five minutes, so get the ps3 version if you want to save time.

I heard first-hand reports that GT5P takes a little under 20 minutes from disk in tray to actually playing. Perhaps that's not such a big deal, but there could be a problem in the future. Namely, how much space on the HDD are these installs taking up? How many future games will require installs? What happens when you fill up, say, a 40 GB HDD and want to play a game that requires an install? If you delete an 'installed' game, will you keep your save files and associated information?
Having to wait for your console game to install is a mere annoyance. But it could become more than that down the line.
