High Voltage Software is developing a new graphics engine designed for the Wii called the Quantum3 engine and claims their engine is capable of producing graphics that are of PS3 and Xbox 360 caliber.
"Quantum3 is the result of 15 years development experience and enables developers to make use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, glossing and other visual improvements. Additionally, Quantum3 uses a 16 TEV stage material pipeline that can blend up to 8 separate texture sources.
"The engine also uses advanced processing techniques to make gameplay smoother, examples including seamless resource streaming, projected shadows, morphing and much more."says High Voltage.
High Voltage's first title which will utilize the Quantum3 engine is called The Conduit. The game is a first-person shooter set in the future and the development studio is hard at work on delivering graphics on-par with the PS3/X360 and have the game running at sixty frames a second.
Early alpha screenshots of the game were unveiled recently, and quite frankly, the game looked quite awful. Honestly, I think what High Voltage Software is trying to do is impossible. Games like Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl are fantastic looking, but they don't approach the graphics that the PS3 and 360 have to offer.

wow, although it dosent actualy match ps3/360, it looks a lot better than i thought the wii could do
after looking at some of the screens, it actually looks pretty kickass
wow, yeah, doesn't look like it matches 360 and PS3 but it looks damn good for the Wii!
You guys aren't serious, right? It just looks like more third-party trash. Yes, some shots do look quite nice, but others are just...yuck. And I'm not comparing to what's out on the PS3 or 360, the game looks bad even for Wii (in some shots, anyway). When you compare the game to Galaxy or Brawl then it's very underwhelming.
i dont think its ps3 or 360 quality, but its definitely a step above the rest, and JSnake, are you basing it off the video or did you actually look for screenies? ign has some pretty impressive ones.
The video is not indicative of the game. It's just a tech demo for what the engine could do. I'm basing my opinion off the screenshots.
ya i agree with jsnake just cause of the screen shots. i want a in game video of it first lol
I'm still waiting for the wii to match the graphics quality of the original xbox. Has anyone played Chronicles of Riddick? That games graphics are far superior to anything on the wii. Soul Calibur 2 had a 720p resolution. Everytime I fire up my wii, I am reminded that I paid $240 for 10 year old hardware.
When you say it dosnt look as good as ps3 or 360.... please not thats its a youtube video :p
well does it matter... if i would buy an console it would be a wii... all the types of games and many of the games of the ps3 and 360 i can play on pc, often better
i know its a youtube vid but i saw this on ign to sooo :P
From what I saw of the screens and the vid, it really does remind me more of XBox games running in progressive scan than anywhere near the capabilities of the PS3/360.
It looks like a 3 year old PC game, and if they think thats like the PS3 or 360, then there in a dream world.
Oh, and NinjaLegend reminded me, what a cracking game Riddick - Butcher Bay was!
