Earlier today, eager Metal Gear Solid fans were all set to enjoy the launch of the Metal Gear Online beta that was supposed to take place but hopes were dashed when Konami announced a delay and suspended the beta. But in a subsequent update, Konami announced the beta will re-launch on April 25th and will run till May 11th.
So what attributed to the delay? According to the press release, there were simply too many people applying and hoping to get into the beta; in other words, they were hit with huge amounts of traffic. Konami will spend the extra days tweaking their servers and hardware to meet the demand around the world.
Here's the official word:
"We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be suspending the European public beta test and restart it once we stabilize our server. We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.
We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
1) Suspend beta test: As of 25/04/2008 08:00(CEST)
2) Planned for 04/25/2008 24:00(PDT). While the start is planned for the weekend, it may change due to unforseen circumstances.
3) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 11/05/2008 at 24:00(CEST) rather than 06/05/2008 at 24:00(CEST)"

Not the 4th day of the 25th month. Man, that's a long way off.
I've been to busy working to register anyway.
mine is downloaded, I'm pissed that they delayed it yet again.
