Adding to the ongoing mess that is the debate of the "decline" of PC gaming are some comments from Crytek president Cevat Yerli. Crytek is well-known for its two PC-only FPS: Far Cry (2004) and Crysis (2007), along with pushing PC hardware to its limits.
When asked about the current state of the PC gaming industry, Yerli made some comments that may irk the PC gaming crowd, especially with a prominent stance of saying console shooters trail behind PC shooters -- assuming that Crytek remains a FPS developer.
"...We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that's the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we won't have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore."
Hearing about this, I wasn't surprised. Crytek already has a console version of the CryEngine 2 running and with past rumors of Crysis heading to consoles in one form or another, it was only natural for the company to branch to consoles. You pretty much have to in order to stay alive too.

We all need money, even Crytek. They will make money by focusing in multi-platform development. If I was offered another job with more money I'd leave my job and go to the new one, we all need more money. In the end they will reach a wider market, make more money which in turn means we can enjoy more games from Crytek.
It's good that console gamers will get their games, but unfortunate that they lost profit on Crysis due to piracy.
it makes sense that they are leading in the piracy. so many ppl wanted the game but didnt want to risk paying the $50 for a game that they couldnt run, so they just DL it.
You can't release a game tailored to the hardcore PC gamer crowd (seriously, nobody who isn't a serious gamer can even run Crysis on their rigs) and expect to not lose a ton of money to piracy. Those with expensive machines know how the PC world works, and they know how to get games for free, which is a highly desirable thing when you've sunk $1,200 into a computer and don't have much budget left over.
So it's Crytek's fault for making such a graphically advanced game? Please. Look at the minimum and recommended hardware stats. If you machine doesn't meet the stats, don't buy the game. Or, if someone can't afford to buy an advanced PC and the games to play on it, maybe they should be re-evaluating their purchase priorities. High system requirements is NOT an excuse for stealing.
