Daily Q: What is your favorite game?

Category: Features, Posted: 05/01/2008 at 09:01AM CDT by Creighton DeSimone, Staff Writer

DQ Welcome to the first ever Daily Q. This is going to be a new daily feature where we ask you, the readers, what you think about games, characters, genres, perephrials, consoles, achievements, colors, shapes and all sorts of things, because honestly, it's you guys who are more important than we are.

Since we are opening this dialogue I thought we should start at the very beginning. It's like asking a new friend "what's your favorite color," when you're ten.

What is your favorite game of all time?

For those who follow me, I actually answered that last week. For those who don't, or who are new to GamerNode (welcome), my favorite game of all time is Zombies Ate My Neighbors. It's a SNES game with a lot of heart, a lot of weapons, and a lot of crazy monsters. I love the top down free-roaming aspect and its classic adventure feel. While there are many games I consider my favorites (Ocarina, BioShock, Crimson Skies...), Zombies is my most favorite.

So, what's yours?

Wow that's a tough question! It's like asking me who is your favorite band, I have so many it's hard to choose! I'll tell you this though, the game that had the biggest impact on me the first time I played it was Final Fantasy VIII (back when it was first released). I know lots of people think it sucked or it was nothing compared to FFVII, but this was the first FF game I played, hell it was the first RPG I ever played! I was so used to platform games like Mario, Ninja Turtles and Crash Bandicoot, that when I discovered this new genre I immediately fell in love. The story was out of this world (for the time, hell I thought Crash Bandicoot has a cool story), and the fantasy elements were awesome. I played that game 5 times throughout, so I guess it's safe to say that is my favorite game of all time.

It's a tough one this. Killer7, OoT, Bioshock, RE4, SMW, Half Life, DKC, Beyond Good and Evil... so many to choose from.

If I had to go with the first that made me stop and think 'wow', I'd go with OoT, natch.

Oh man. Uh, it's either Super Metroid, Paper Mario, or EarthBound. Super Metroid is the best game ever, but I don't know if it's my favorite. It might be but I'm not sure. I think I'd have to go with EarthBound. It may not be what people consider an all-time best, but it touched me on a personal level that skyrocketed it towards the top of my favorites list.

But really, I can't say for sure. I'm gonna take the pussy way out and say all three of those games are my favorites.

Probably Might and Magic VI. THE BEST of the M&M.

I'm just gonna say ther really obvious half-life as I can't think of anything in less than 0.0000000000241 secs.

Half Life 2. My gaming life was assured from that day onwards (Respect to Half Life 1 as well)

I'd say either Baldur's Gate II or Half Life 2. It's impossible to tell which I spent more time with.

Mario 3, or pre-EA Ultima Online.

The game, or games, I keep going back to when there is nothing new out or I just want have fun would be X-com and Masters of Orion 2. I also enjoy old school Lemmings, I just fininshed playing Diablo 2 for the thousandth time (I think) and I love the old Caesar games. I love alot of new games as well but older games HAD to be fun because the graphics where coloured dots.

its a tossup between civ 2 (still play this game), Star wars Tie Fighter (the only game i woke up 2 hours earlier than i had to, because of school, to play), halo (one of 3 games i stayed up all night playing, had a blast lugging my tv around to friends houses to play 16 player multiplayer...), star wars kotor (2nd of 3 games i stayed up all night playing, and i'm a star wars nut...), or diablo 2 (3rd of 3, also played it with tons of friends 'cuz playing it by yourself is not only hard, but also a little boring...).

I have definitely had the most fun playing halo, but i can always go back to civ 2...

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. The first horror game I'd ever played and really the one that made me love the genre.

Half-Life and System Shock 2 are up there. I think I am going to have to go with Half-Life though. Just because.

7 minutes in heaven is my favorite GAME ever. It's amazing what a man can do with seven minutes in a room with a chick...

Man, Creighton...you tell ME to keep these questions SIMPLE, and then you go and ask the most difficult question POSSIBLE?! WTF?!

Seriously, I have no clue what game I could consider my favorite. The best I could do is narrow it down to a list of ~20 O_o

Dark Cloud 2 on the PS2 was the greatest gaming experience I have ever had. I had really low expectations for it, but I then became enamored with the story and gameplay. I then proceded to spend 150 hours completing every task in the game. It was awesome.
