PS3 is going "pro-choice" for HDD configurations

Since the PS3 has debuted, we've seen a plethora of different HDD configurations for the machine in multiples of 20. Sony has released the 20GB, the 40GB, the 60GB, and 80GB PS3 models. What's next? The 100GB?
David Reeves, boss at Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe says he would like to see the gamer take control of this decision and choose their hard drive capacity instead of facing all the different PS3 HDD models.
"We launched with 60GB and to reduce the price we went to 40GB. We're not sure we want to stay with that configuration of hard drive, and I think what you're going to see in the future is maybe consumers can choose.
"The PlayStation will stay the same, but consumers can choose whichever size of hard drive they want. They can now, or course, because it's not a proprietary hard drive. It might be that we will offer the possibility for people to have a bigger hard drive, but they have that option now. But it does not mean that we have anything in the works to introduce a different model or bigger hard drive built in."
So although no new PS3 models will be coming out, he leaves the door open for possible PS3 HDD hardware additions. Will we see "official" PS3 hard drive upgrades for sale one day?
If so, it's a sure fire bet that they will cost more than off the shelf units. Currently, a 120GB 2.5 drive, that is compatible with the PS3, will run you about $80. Add the PS3 logo and it'll probably double in price.

Hmm, I've always liked the fact that Sony lets consumers interchange hard drives, though I wish they would just settle on a PS3 model and stick with it. Also, I'd never buy a Sony branded hard drive if it cost more than a generic one I could find online or elsewhere. Unfortunately, a lot of people know little to nothing about this sort of thing so they would fall for the trap and end up paying more for an "official" product.
I agree. A little knowledge goes a long way in being able to save some money. On a side note, does the word "Deekoo" have any significance for you? I used to know a Raven in a galaxy far far away a long time ago...

Lol. Just checking. Raven used to be an online friend of mine years back. And Deekoo was a mutual friend. I guess you're right though, he didn't know how to spell "Dooku" correctly. lol.
