Much like characters in novels, movies, and other stories, videogame characters can resonate strongly with the playing audience, oftentimes because players identify with certain characteristics that they exhibit or circumstances surrounding them.
I'd like to think that we have all imagined ourselves as one videogame character or another at some point in our lives. At least I hope so, because I don't want to have been the only child on the block prone to such whimsy. Now I'm "all grown up," and my mind has wandered back to the question:
"If you were a videogame character, who would you be?"
I'm only now realizing how difficult a question this is to answer. There are many character who like, but few who I can really identify with. If I had to choose, I might say Wander from Shadow of the Colossus, due to his unwavering passion to achieve what is in his mind the single most important goal in his life, whatever the cost. He embarked on his journey alone, and only had himself to see his way to the end.
Or maybe I'd choose the diver guy from Endless Ocean, simply because I want to live his life. :-P

I'm going to say Jan from Baldur's Gate II- crazy little turnip loving gnome.
I can't really say one I really identify with, but for coolness Bowser. He's just awesome.
The "T" Tetris block. I fit in just about anywhere.
Ooh. Tough. I think I'd definately be one of those cliched loner heros who hates being around people. Or the mad villain who wants to destroy the world. Destroying the world is my unrealistic life goal, so I can identify with that. XD
Strangely enough, I can't even think of a character who matches those descriptions... maybe because there are just too many...
Kain, from the Legacy of Kain series.
Sander Cohen
God from the bible games.
I would like to think I am like Link from Legend of Zelda but I'm not sure I could be that heroic or not speak for long ammounts of time. No, I would probably be more like Luigi. Tall Italian who can do lots of things like race karts, play sports and rescue a princess when he has to... even though I'd be a little affraid.
I try to be Niko, but end up more like Roman. At least I'm not fat.
The fire guy from captain planet. He was a true legend, saving the polar bears and fixing the ozone layer.
Huh, I'd have to say either Raziel from Legacy of Kain or Saren from Mass Effect. The later has to be my all time favorite villain, since he thought he was right and wasn't just "Bah, I want to do evil!".
Barney Calhoun (Blue Shift and HL2). He's not the smartest or bravest person in the world, but when it comes down to crunch time, he's there to kick ass and take names.
"The "T" Tetris block. I fit in just about anywhere."
I'd be the straight block... I either come at the perfect time, and make everyone happy, or I miss-judge my place and turn everything into a clusterfuck.
lol vincian.
CRAP, that's a toughie. I don't think I've played any game with a character remotely like me... I've heard people say Edgar from FF6 because of my (over)confidence, but I really don't know... XD
I'd go with Niko. The "do whatever to get ahead" kind of guy. I am sarcastic, and really could care less what others think of me. And most off all, I always feel out of place around most Americans.
I'm with vincian.
I agree with Ninjalegend.
