One big topic in the world of videogames this particular console generation is the notion of "casual" vs "hardcore" gamers, but what does that actually mean? Lately, the gaming press generally calls anything that falls in the puzzle genre a casual game. Minigame collections are big recipients of the casual label, and about half the releases on Nintendo consoles get slapped with that distinction as well.
It seems that anything that has minimal storyline and focuses on shorter individual gameplay sessions is what people like to call "casual," so my question to the GN readers is this:
Do you play casual games? How do you define that term?
Yeah, it's two questions again, but I think the second is essential to understanding the first. As for me, I tend to gravitate towards the more complete virtual experiences that feature in-depth storylines, progressive gameplay mechanics, and unique and interesting game design.
Having said that, I still kinda play a little bit of everything, but I enjoy those epic and memorable games a little bit more. I'm just a gamer.

If you count fighting games like Tekken, SSBB, and Street fighter 2, then yes. Throw in shooters like rtype and xbox live arcade and that makes me a hella casual gamer along with my hardcore won't sleep the night before Metal Gear Solid 4.
everyone does. Anyone here like peggle? thought so.
I play Rocket Mania deluxe on my laptop when I don't have my BF2142 cd with me, so ya.
Yes I do. I love puzzle games and the occaisonal party game is nice to pull out every once in a while. I tend to think of anything that is meant to be played with other people for any real entertainment as a casual game. So most fighting, racing, mini-game compilations, etc. Now thats a very "in general" sounding statement, but that was the best way I could explain it...
Normally I'm a hardcore gamer, but occasionally I'll play some casula games (Geometry Wars, and Peggle are my favorites).
Tetris is God. Now tell me whether or not that makes me a casual gamer.
Peggle is win.
Yes, I do, though it's been a couple of years since I went on a casual binge (Popcap/Gamehouse). Peggle would be my last one, unless Puzzle Quest counts.
I don't define a game casual.
I define the gamer casual or a hardcore gamer.
Games are games.
