The PlayStation 3 launched with a motion controller, but hasn't had near the success of the Wii remote. Instead of tossing in the towel, Sony is sticking with its guns and working on a second iteration of their original design.
Many have made the claim that Sony is stealing the motion controller idea from Nintendo and reports on the new design from Sony won't do much to stem these opinions.
Rumor has it that the new controller can break into two pieces and both have motion controller functionality, thanks to an accelerometer like those found in the Wii remote and the Apple iPhone.
With the rumors stating also that this new controller has already been shipped out to some developers, one has to wonder if Sony's new toy will make its debut at E3 this year.

wow how many controllers am i going to have to buy to get the best out of all my games and the remote is not the only seller of the system because i think being cheap helped them the most.
I for one look forward to this.
Jesus how many freaking versions are they going to release?
You've heard of paying to play beta; welcome to paying to try out prototypes. It appears that this generation of consoles will not be defined by the games on them, but by the amount of accessories they can convince the customer they need to buy in order to have a fulfilling experience on their product.
It is shinanigans (sp?) such as this that make me glad I don't own one of these consoles yet.
Be far though Nintendo are hardly the creators of the motion controller to they just stole it from somthing esle to.
who'd nintendo steal it from?
it wasn't exactly a new idea: things like the wiimote had been around for ages, just not specifically for games.
but we can all agree that nintendo was the first to put it on consoles though right?
It's certainly the first to fully integrate it. There's been a small assortment of third-party peripherals for other consoles that played around with accelerometers in the past. And not very well at that, but they're there.
