The countdown over at Square-Enix's Chrono Trigger site has come to an end, revealing but a single trailer for the DS game. Fans who were hoping for a 3D remake a la Final Fantasy III & IV will be disappointed, however, as the game looks identical to its Super Nintendo counterpart. The video didn't show any dual screen or touchscreen gameplay, and didn't update the vague "Winter 2008" release window we read about last week, either. Take a look:
chrono trigger was awesome.
i have nothing useful to say.
this is kind of strange and unexpected...
I'm torn.
On one hand I understand that SE just wants to make money off an old cult classic with as little overhead as possible.
On the other I am sorely disappointed that it is not 3D. How did FF 3 get a 3D rework (seeing as how it never had a US launch and as such never got a following), and honestly the trailer for the homebrew version pays a lot of respect to the artwork and feel of the game. Guided it looks like they were using the DQ 8 engine to make that, but we are talking SE here they own that property so the issue is a moot one.
Oh well I guess we will have to wait my 20+ years before there is ever a 3D Chrono Trigger service to the fans. This game is the catalyst that got me really loving RPGs as a hole. Suffice to say it did its job well since I have been playing them for over 10 years now. I can wait for SE to do this one right.
typo, *whole and not hole. >
well this is a kick in the teef
wow just play the game who cares what it look likes
Still got the SNES version that I play when I get a bug up my nose.
