TF2 updates coming to 360 (but you'll have to pay)

Category: Xbox 360, Posted: 08/22/2008 at 01:19PM EDT by Brendon Lindsey, Managing Editor

As fans of TF2 know, one of the reasons the game has stayed great is the constant updating. New guns, food groups, and more keep the game fun,f resh, and (depending on your sense of humor) hilarious.

But what about the 360 owners of The Orange Box? Unfortunately, right now they're missing out. Fortunately, they won't have to miss out forever, as Valve's Doug Lombardi has revealed that eventually the company is going to bring the Team Fortress 2 updates to the Xbox 360. (No word on PS3 yet, sorry guys.)

Due to Microsoft's pricing structure, Valve won't be allowed to release the update for free. To try and make the pain of paying for free updates easier, Valve's waiting to package a big group of them together for the lowest price they'll be allowed to get away with, which will hopefully be no more than $10.

So have no fear, Xbox Live TF2ers-you'll be om nom nom'ing in no time.

Sucks to play this on Xbox, don't it?

@archem

no, not really Not only do i prefer to play it on the 360 but after seeing all the fuss with the new updates on the PC, i wont have to deal with it when it comes to the 360, because there will be so much there, that ppl wont spam with 1 class, etc.

But i do worry about how valve will handle this, if they choose to rip the game in half, updated players or not, this could be an issue. But if they dont do it that way, it will require ppl to pay to keep playing, which could be an issue

Microsoft annoys me. Why wont they let people download it for free? Valve apparently wants to.

Bingo-Bango: what will probably happen is that if you havn't bought it you will still be able to play with other who have, but you just don't get the extras.

I dunno bingo-bango... I'd rather have the FREE content, and deal with the class influxes (which aren't really that bad after a few days), then allow Microsoft from bleeding me dry.

I think they have to charge because it will use a great deal (assuming it's as popular on Xbox 360) of their bandwidth to get the update to people.

From what I know of how it works, Bingo, Microsoft requires updates to be paid unless they're available for free on PS3. (Hence why Burnout Paradise has free updates.) Since Valve hates PS3 owners, I guess their distaste for charging lost out to their distaste for doing something on the PS3.

Valve hates ps3 owners?

*casts away his ideas of buying a ps3
