Electronic Arts, mega game publisher and game franchise addict, has announced that it is considering its recently released game, The Godfather, as a candidate for more game installments. (Oh no, everyone said.) David DeMartini, the executive producer of the game, said to BBC News, "We went into this venture taking into consideration the establishment of a brand new franchise. Our intention is to make two and three." The Godfather game has EA heavily invested in the project, and a one title publication will probably not produce enough revenue to offset the costs of production. EA™s foray into the mobster game category is fueled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series. DeMartini explained: We wanted to make a category leader that would give significant competition to the GTA game and basically would provide a very formidable alternative. We found a tremendous number of things that they were doing well that we tried to match. And then some very specific opportunities for innovation and enhancements that should establish us as the leader in those areas." We don™t know if The Godfather will be a hit or not. But if it turns out to be a good seller, you can bet Don Corleone™s chubby cheeks that EA will be making more than just two or three additional games. But if these games turn out to be lackluster and disappointing, the Godfather franchise may be an offer that we just might refuse.
